Amendment

As Members of the House of Commons or the House of Lords debate a bill as it passes through Parliament, they may suggest alterations that they believe will improve the quality of the legislation. These amendments must be debated and voted on. Although hundreds of amendments may be proposed to major bills, only a few are usually incorporated into any bill.
