Early Day Motion
Also known as an EDM. This is a request, or notices of motion, on the order paper by an MP in the House of Commons calling for a debate on a particular subject. However, although very few are debated, an EDM is used as a way for MPs to put on record their opinion on a subject and to canvass support by inviting other members to add their signatures in support of the motion. An EDM will usually require the support of at least half the MPs in the House.
