Queen's Speech

At the start of every session of Parliament, the Monarch reads an Address written by the Government outlining their policies and bills for the following session. This is known as the Queen's (or King's) Speech, and is read during the State Opening of Parliament in the House of Lords.

Once the speech has been read out, the House of Commons return to their Chamber to debate its contents.
