Background

The Democratic Unionist Party was established in the 1970's by Ian Paisley and Desmond Boal.

The DUP is the largest political party in the Northern Ireland Assembly with 36 seats. It is also the largest Northern Ireland party in the House of Commons, with 8 seats, and the fourth largest party in terms of seats after Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.
